WITH MALICE BY EILEEN COOK

GOODREADS BLURB:

When Jill wakes up in a hospital bed with her leg in a cast, the last six weeks of her life are a complete blank. All she has been told is that she was involved in a fatal accident while on a school trip in Italy and had to be jetted home to receive intensive care. Care that involves a lawyer. And a press team. Because maybe the accident…. wasn't just an accident.

With no memory of what happened or what she did, can Jill prove her innocence? And can she really be sure that she isn't the one to blame?

REVIEW:

Let me just preface this review by saying that I wanted to like this book. I really, really did. I know a lot of people who enjoyed it and gave it high ratings, which in turn made me want to read this book too. Going forth from that, I had high expectations. Those expectations were, sadly, not met.

The idea of the book was great. The story had all of the right ingredients to be great, but in my opinion the story was executed poorly. The seriousness wasn't communicated that well to me, I didn't feel the weight of the situation at all. I couldn't connect to the characters, all of them felt two-dimensional to me.

The plot twists were predictable, and not even in the 'aha, I knew it!' kind of way, but more like in the 'oh...' kind of way. The book was also, incredibly dissatisfying. Dissatisfying in that we got no clear answers and the ending seemed rushed. That to me was very frustrating.

If this book is something that interests you, then I suggest you check it out, but honestly I'd recommend to skip this one.

RATING: 2/5
