Do ya'll remember the masterpiece that was Imaginary Girls? Like, holy shit, I'm such trash for Nova Ren Suma and her writing style. I eat it up like it's cake of the highest quality. I shit you not, Nova Ren Suma does not disappoint with this novel. Omg can I say Nova Ren Suma one more time? Nova Ren Suma. Ok.
This book has twisted and turned my life upside down. Like, I'm a whore for Halloween, I love fall and October and just everything about this season is lit as fuck, so reading The Walls Around Us in preparation for the upcoming three month long horror marathon was PERFECT.
Now, you see, you cannot fit Nova Ren Suma's novels into a category. That would just be wrong. However, for the purpose of describing this book to you, I'll say that this could possibly be classified as a magical realism mystery novel. I mean, among other things too, but that would just be spoiling it and I ain't about that life.
Guys, the characters. I actually wish I was able to speak what I'm saying and that you could see my face, but DAMN. THOSE CHARACTERS. The characters are always the focus point in almost all of Nova Ren Suma's novels, so no surprise here either. They were fleshed out so beautifuly, and I rooted for Ori so much! I was so freaking frustrated at what was going on her behalf, and UGHH I CAN'T. I can't. I was so invested in this story I forgot who I was for a minute. Nova Ren Suma has a way of writing stories that pull you in and captivate you and you forget what life is and oh my god I just lost my train of thought...
Anyway. I highly recommend for you to get your hands on this. Especially for this upcoming Halloween season. You will not be disappointed if you're someone who appreciates stunning writing.
