So I started reading this book a while ago, then had to put it on hold because I had my dissertation to write and then exams, it wasn't because I didn't enjoy it. In fact, I was incredibly surprised by just how much I liked this book. You know, I'm actually not a fan of contemporary reads at all. Just not the genre I usually gravitate towards, but I do have an inkling for picking up contemporary novels during the summer months. I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels that way. Right? Right. 

This book is an emotional rollercoaster from start to finish. That is the only way to accurately describe this book in a sentence. I'm not going to talk about the plot of this novel in detail here, but if you want more insight you can check out the Goodreads page of Someone Else's Life here. Basically, the premise of the plot is that Rosie, the MC, goes through the most heartbreaking journey of watching her mother die of Huntington's disease. And if that's not heart wrenching enough, she then finds out that her mother, Trudie, was not actually her mother. This is the point in the book where shit hits the fan. Ladies and gentlemen, it's all downhill from there. (Not pot wise or anything, but for the characters in the story.)

Not gonna lie, I was surprised by just how well the characters were fleshed out. I mean, don't get me wrong, there could have been a lot more done in regards to showing who are as people, but overall, Katie Dale did a great job. There were certain points where the weight of the situation and the emotions were communicated so well I felt heartbroken for the characters. Especially so when it came to a certain character we get to meet later on in the story. There so many twists and turns one after another, after another, after ANOTHER, that it got exhausting. I was sitting there like "christ almighty, give these people a break"!! It was good though. That's what you want from a book.

Overall, this a very nice read. I gave it 4 out of 5 stars. Highly recommended. Oh and also, I have a favourite quote from the book so I'll wrap up this post with it. 

"I follow silently. There are no words. No comfort. Only the wait. Always the wait. The weight." (p. 461)
